</div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">As summer comes to a close, I have pumpkin everything on my mind as I pine for the fall season. The bright colors of summer fade away to the black, purple and orange of the Halloween season and I have been lucky enough to stumble upon a few stores that have jumped the gun early. </div>
<div> </div>
<div>So I packed up the ECTO-6 and set out for adventure with my friends from The Purple Stuff Podcast (<a href="http://dinosaurdracula.com/" target="_blank">Dinosaur Dracula</a> and T<a href="http://sexyarmpit.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">he Sexy Armpit</a>) keeping me in the Halloween spirit for company. If you haven't listened to their podcast yet, I highly recommend it as I enjoy trying to seek out the same very things that they search for or stumble upon as a pseudo-scavenger hunt. Their hunting grounds are the NY/NJ area so it's often fun to see what this small Northern Minnesota environment can do to compete with a denser populated area. </div>
<div> </div>
<div>So far, us in the 'Sota are outpacing our Eastern friends...</div>
<div><a name='more'></a>
</div>
<div> </div>
<div><a name="more"></a></div>
<div>The first trip on the adventure was to the local Dollar General and when I say "local" i meant 25 minutes away and through a hodge podge meandering of road construction. When entering the Dollar General, I stumbled upon a small smack of Halloween candy but this is a dime a dozen right now. I still found the unusual "Spider-Man Candy Sticks" and this year's annual "Ahhh hell, lets try it" Oreo item; an Oreo Egg decorated by a smiling Jack O'Lantern.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>I knew that this Dollar General has a toy section so I browsed but did not find the Halloween section where Matt and Jay from the Purple Stuff podcast had found these "Halloween Grow Capsules." I was intrigued by them and hoped that I would find them. </div>
<div> </div>
<div>And did I find them!</div>
<div> </div>
<div>I stumbled up on a whole aisle of cheap Halloween merchandise only the likes of a Dollar General can provide. I snatched up Skeleton Army PVC figures (they might make good Deadites), an owl wearing a witch hat doormat, a gnarly retro-like Halloween pail, a "It's the Great, Pumpkin" ceramic mug (which is my most exciting trophy) and the infamous Grow Capsules. </div>
<div> </div>
<div>$13 later, my first shopping of the Halloween season was done!</div>
<div> </div>
<div>

</div>
</div>
</div>
<div> </div>
<div> </div>
<div> </div>
<div>I figured that the day was still young in August and that I would try my luck elsewhere so I made my way to Walgreens but they still were in "Back 2 School" mode. However, it should be noted that the curtain of Halloween candy was soon to fall upon them as seen in the photo below:</div>
<div> </div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a style="margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_oWVTtnNQ33KXc2D6A0ZjUu-TemEzXwaq1JZHYvylFWYvE2p25wI6xmWJ1qC2oLy3AQgtezRAE6qHJH6EB47khxSlEjHAsAl5lob-LePcPRb69IvPltJdo4M2aB0OB6IOfhfZRY_kQ92B/"><img title="Walgreens" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_oWVTtnNQ33KXc2D6A0ZjUu-TemEzXwaq1JZHYvylFWYvE2p25wI6xmWJ1qC2oLy3AQgtezRAE6qHJH6EB47khxSlEjHAsAl5lob-LePcPRb69IvPltJdo4M2aB0OB6IOfhfZRY_kQ92B/" alt="" width="550" height="733" data-json="{"requiresResize":true}" /></a></div>
</div>
<div> </div>
<div>The only luck I had finding ANYTHING Halloween merchandise was two lonely and out of place Hot Wheels cars. While interesting and neat, I wasn't going to swipe my Visa for $2.15 of metal and plastic tires. </div>
<div> </div>
<div> </div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a style="margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwmXFx4Aryxg1aidfDQhrJzQyXOCZPukMLItQ-rdFhTXLv4HpcvCWtOmSNRRjMSbMBrVnzzx03_bn2R-1HNvapJGdWznpiTlvfk7gm3DojXabKNADsAOxqcZU5OoJ5vLKzQNROrUB0N1lP/"><img title="Hot wheels Halloween" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwmXFx4Aryxg1aidfDQhrJzQyXOCZPukMLItQ-rdFhTXLv4HpcvCWtOmSNRRjMSbMBrVnzzx03_bn2R-1HNvapJGdWznpiTlvfk7gm3DojXabKNADsAOxqcZU5OoJ5vLKzQNROrUB0N1lP/" alt="" width="500" height="666" data-json="{"requiresResize":true}" /></a></div>
</div>
<div> </div>
<div> </div>
<div> </div>
<div>To wash the distaste of Walgreen's out of my caramel apple desiring Hobbit hole, I trekked to Menard's, a local building store, who is known for having an early and amazing selection of Halloween items. </div>
<div> </div>
<div>And they did not disappoint!</div>
<div> </div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a style="margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrsZIj-ZIDgOCR2oCCUH1zrs2NEm-r4ICcX9c48vDlWLjwa1XUQSQxQI1H2_4FxzHce6hllmb3Vt3s622NEB04BN0OSL2KIs_K236jjVB0RcOybkc6pm_xscikzQ1Rf_X2pfLvQc6bU9cP/"><img title="Menards 1" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrsZIj-ZIDgOCR2oCCUH1zrs2NEm-r4ICcX9c48vDlWLjwa1XUQSQxQI1H2_4FxzHce6hllmb3Vt3s622NEB04BN0OSL2KIs_K236jjVB0RcOybkc6pm_xscikzQ1Rf_X2pfLvQc6bU9cP/" alt="" width="549" height="733" data-json="{"requiresResize":true}" /></a></div>
</div>
<div> </div>
<div> </div>
<div>Masks, candy, decorations and fake blood! YEEEEES!</div>
<div> </div>
<div>I did find some amazing things here but it was too early to blow the wad on the first day of Halloween shopping so I putzed around the section and decided that I would only take some photos to share with you all. </div>
<div> </div>
<div> </div>
<div>First off, the generic "Chinless Zombie" mask that resembled a certain Robert Englund character....</div>
<div> </div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a style="margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifrJf0o5xOfTHrVeBQkjkDVpk5bgbABFfrvhyphenhyphenOJOlpPqevzR7r3OMFxdiJh5JEuwM8Grb5b3D6GbuZPg1PfkEUevIisemwcjyumHfxnvWxCoZTUf6sKOqEScmQX2eisb-nYswX8NZQNX5f/"><img title="Chinless" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifrJf0o5xOfTHrVeBQkjkDVpk5bgbABFfrvhyphenhyphenOJOlpPqevzR7r3OMFxdiJh5JEuwM8Grb5b3D6GbuZPg1PfkEUevIisemwcjyumHfxnvWxCoZTUf6sKOqEScmQX2eisb-nYswX8NZQNX5f/" alt="" width="500" height="666" data-json="{"requiresResize":true}" /></a></div>
</div>
<div> </div>
<div>I will return for a few of these items including this amazing painting that had LED lights and sounds. What better way to say Halloween than this portrait of a witch giving Trick or Treaters candy from a haunted house?! </div>
<div> </div>
<div>I also believe that I am growing a very large soft spot for anything Frankenstein's monster after watching the classic Universal Monster movie earlier this summer so this dancing Frank will be mine when I don't scoff at the $20 price tag. To answer your question, he sings MC Hammer's "U Can't Touch This" for some reason.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>I did pull the trigger on a $5 Spooky Sound Box because it was shaped like a coffin and did amazing sounds. </div>
<div> </div>
<div>

</div>
</div>
I was having such a good time looking at these season oddities that I thought I would give the Dollar Tree a shot as most my decor comes from there because everything is a dollar and it's often times cheap fun. They did have a small section of Halloween items of which I picked up a LED ghost and LED witch combo for $2. They have sounds and lights and came with batteries so it was $2 well spent.
</div>
<div> </div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a style="margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUx2xzKvXnZdJlW4wx6iVj8ildx3ihPwvH_2NxZrPJyOxFQd_jcDfzr59SQNLTUDMRFS_80nJGpeYQQJT_uY-CrT56nbQPMVkh5qb2bpqR7Ez4Ovi23jLUoNxwkgeQiARgWSN2xe4tR6l8/"><img title="Dthalloween" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUx2xzKvXnZdJlW4wx6iVj8ildx3ihPwvH_2NxZrPJyOxFQd_jcDfzr59SQNLTUDMRFS_80nJGpeYQQJT_uY-CrT56nbQPMVkh5qb2bpqR7Ez4Ovi23jLUoNxwkgeQiARgWSN2xe4tR6l8/" alt="" width="550" height="733" data-json="{"requiresResize":true}" /></a></div>
</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Since I was there, I bumbled about and found this book from Clarissa herself, Melissa Joan Hart, and I really enjoyed Bill Murrary's endorsement for it. Ooooh that Billy!</div>
<div> </div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a style="margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFZn5risbIUP8kw2u8VxPAaDLI4hmqGAQNL-c5pFEmDWqQ_wz0PUH-9L3F-IqtqAIqW77dt3gLZ-tqhG8t01_I5mWYguMP2SxivGn7U6wE6qrMvnmSa8kK3_HMFhA4XSAKimeoDk9Q4xsW/"><img title="Mjh01" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFZn5risbIUP8kw2u8VxPAaDLI4hmqGAQNL-c5pFEmDWqQ_wz0PUH-9L3F-IqtqAIqW77dt3gLZ-tqhG8t01_I5mWYguMP2SxivGn7U6wE6qrMvnmSa8kK3_HMFhA4XSAKimeoDk9Q4xsW/" alt="" width="500" height="666" data-json="{"requiresResize":true}" /></a></div>

</div>
</div>
<div> </div>
<div> </div>
<div>Lastly, I searched the local Target and found a few lost Halloween items mixed in with the Back 2 School Dollar Alley section but nothing of significance to report. I did find a few items that will be featured later on in another blog however and I am ever excited to talk about them!</div>
<div> </div>
<div>As I close out this entry post of the Halloween 2017 season, what items are you finding in your neck of the woods? Anything fun and unusual that is a must have item for the Season of Sam Hain? Let me know by tagging this post in your blog or tagging us at <a href="www.instagram.com/whoyagonnacollect">Instagram with the @whoyagonnacollect account!</a> I'd love to see what slimy spew is ushering in the fall madness in your area!</div>
<div> </div>
<div>And before I go, here's the "EPIC" grow capsules from Dollar General!</div>

<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/aOdPNpgn4ek" width="560"></iframe></center>
<br />
<br />
I decided to take up some videography and do a virtual tour of the ECTO ...whatever this place is... I guess museum sounds better now as it has a bunch of oddities. <br />
<br />
It's not ideal because I shot it at 2 am with a phone and it was a second take. I also learned that the angle from below the chin is not flattering but oh well, it took 25 minutes to record the second take and it's about the items and not me.<br />

<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">(</span><span style="font-family: "calibri";">SPOILERS AHEAD)</span></div>
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">Before I get too far into the review for the 2016 movie,
Ghostbusters: Answer the Call, I wanted to say that I have thoroughly enjoyed
the celebration summer for my favorite movie franchise. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">There has been ECTO Cooler, merchandise, TV spots, new music
related to Ghostbusters, and so much more. This all has made me very happy as
the brand has been sitting on a shelf in Sony’s offices for decades collecting
dust. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">I am not going to get too much into the controversy about
Ghostbusters: Answer the Call. All history needs to know is that people were
upset because this was going to be a very different movie than they wanted
whether you want to say it was female Ghostbusters, not their Ghostbusters, a
Paul Feig comedy movie, or whatever you want to use as an excuse. </span></div>
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";"></span><br />
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: "calibri";">My stance early on in production of this movie as the news
began to come out was heartbreak and disappointment because I love Ghostbusters
for the character personalities of the 1984 movie. Just like the Teenage Mutant
Ninja Turtles, the Ghostbusters of Spengler, Stantz, Venkman and Zeddemore were
built on personality archetypes. Spengler is the brains, Stantz is the heart,
Venkman the mouth, and Zeddemore was “the every man” who the audience would
view the entrepreneurs through. </span><br />
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">I loved the relationships created in Ghostbusters and
Ghostbusters II and really wanted to see where those characters went next after
the 1989 sequel. I got that partially in Ghostbuster: The Video Game and am
grateful for it but the ability to buy and celebrate my love for the characters
is always a greedy thing but something I’d relish. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">As you know, there is a new cast in this movie but more
hurtfully, it does not tie into the same thread as my favorite movie
personalities. This is why I was upset about the movie’s premise, hurt by the
handling of it, and confused during watching it the first time. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">I do not like people putting words into my mouth and I sure
the hell am no misogynist. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">As someone who refers to himself as a “Ghosthead” and does
the whole Ghostbusters lifestyle, of course I am going to see the new movie and
I did twice. Once on the night before the premiere and then a few days later on
the IMAX screen. I sat with my Ghostbusters brothers and sisters and pretended for
a moment that I didn't know anything about proton charging, entrapment of the
beast, or brake pad costs, and just wanted someone to tell me what the hell is
going on.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">After the first viewing, I did a reactionary video that may
see the light of day at some point once my editor finishes it but I am going to
take the same format I did there; the good, the bad, and the ugly. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">And full disclosure that Sony did send me free items to help
promote this movie which I gladly did and will continue to do because of the
kids. No movie checks but I am happy to get paid in pins, shirts, and posters
because the happiness is so well worth it. </span></div>
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<br />
<span style="font-family: "calibri";"><b>
The Good</b></span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">The best part about this movie is that it is bringing
Ghostbusters back. It’s on store shelves, marketing, television, magazines and
it is bringing life back to a dead franchise. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">It’s bringing awareness back to a property that a lot of
people love and it is driving people to watch the original and its sequel. It
is also helping Sony market a back catalog of music, television, and iconic
property in various ways; so much so that I have my Ghostbusters slots on auto
spin in the Spin it Rich! iPad app. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">As for the movie’s content, the effects were pretty amazing and
while I did not see it in 3D, everyone claims that it is truly a fun 3D movie
which is a hard thing to accomplish. I enjoyed the proton streams and the way
that the film angles them towards the camera in different perspectives. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">The character of Kevin (Chris Hemsworth) is the humor in
this movie and in my two showings, his character has been the one to make the
audiences roar. The midsection of this movie has a section of Kevin that keeps
hitting the audience with his humor but sadly it is the only time that I felt
the movie hit comedy status with a string of jokes that were honestly funny. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">I did also appreciate Leslie Jones’ Patty Tolan at points
such as the rock concert scene when she walks into a room of mannequins and
states that it is the “room of nightmares.”</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">The music of this movie is a high point for me as well with
a blockbuster feel soundtrack of various artists in all genres of music. I have
never heard of ZAYN but his song, wHo, is one that I particularly enjoy as it
mixes Ghostbusters’ “Who ya gonna call?” into a smooth hit of a song. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">And I am one of the very few who enjoys the Fall Out Boy ft.
Missy Elliot track. </span></div>
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">Kids may enjoy this and if they do, I am all </span><span style="font-family: "calibri";">for it.</span><span style="font-family: "calibri";"><br /></span></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";"><b>The Bad</b></span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">The character development of Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy),
Erin Gilbert (Kristin Wiig), and Patty Tolan (Leslie Jones) is pretty piss poor
by the actors. The only character who seems to have a personality exuding from
her is Jillian Holtzmann (Kate McKinnon) who will be the only one audiences
remember in 3 years barring a sequel. Holtzmann comes off very much like Jim
Carrey’s Edward Nygma character from “Batman Forever” which is not a bad thing
but when you have that much cartoon pop in one character and nothing invested
in the others, it shows up in a mighty big gap. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">While her zany personality driven character exudes energy,
most of McKinnon’s jokes fall flat for some reason. There is an early joke in
the movie about a bodily function that is delivered by Holtzmann which never took
off in either of the two showings I was a part of. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">The comedy in this movie feels either forced at times or
lacking timing. And I am not sure if it is a writing thing or an editing thing
but I am disappointed as hell. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">Speaking of the writing, there were some pretty big plot
holes that I unfortunately witnessed within this movie and I am usually not one
to catch them in movies. The last time that I noticed glaring plot holes in a
movie was Michael Bay’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles a few summers ago as that
movie was re-edited to appease fans. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">My issues in the writing came in two spots particularly; the
rock concert crowd surfing scene and the third act rescue scene. Both these
scenes are on my radar for different reasons. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">In the rescue scene, I noticed an issue with the length of
the cable that Erin uses to jump into the portal to save Abby. As she jumps
into the portal, the opening is a little larger than a manhole cover as the
world rebuilds around it. She falls about 300-500 feet to save Abby from Rowan’s
hand and when the two characters meet up, they slow down and float. I can buy
this since it’s a portal, sure… Then the cable jerks and the characters start
to be pulled backwards out of the other dimension at a very fast pace. The
movie cuts to Patty and Jillian pulling on the cable through the Mercado Hotel
doors. There is about 20 feet of slack behind them to indicate no winch is
being used and as the portal closes, Abby and Erin pop out with white hair.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">I can forgive a lot of things such as the float and slow down
of time. However, to believe that two characters can pull two other characters
out of a closing portal which seals pretty quickly on about 300 feet of cable
in a matter of seconds was really hard to believe. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">The special effects team lost their timing on this scene and
it showed up enough to jar me which is unfortunate. </span></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";"><b>The Ugly</b></span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">In the rock concert scene, the infamous marketing line by
Patty Tolan was “I am not sure if it’s a race thing or a lady thing but I am
mad as hell.” This line is said after she jumps backwards into a concert crowd
and is not caught by the audience which causes her to land flat on her back. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">The issue that I have with this scene is not even the writers’
using the race and gender card, it comes with lack of integrity within the
writing. Prior to Tolan’s jump, Abby Yates turns towards the crowd and does a
jump where the crowd catches her and moves her. She has NO ISSUE with her jump.
This character is a female which eliminates the gender portion of her statement
so logically it would be a race thing. However, the character KNOWING that her
FEMALE counterpart just succeeded at her attempt to crowd surf. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">It’s a dumb joke that makes no sense in context but was only
put there to acknowledge the few fans that truly hated the action of making an
all female team. This was one of the few times that this broke the fourth wall
to comment on this political backlash from some fans and immortalized it in the
film. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">It was a petty act by the film makers and something that
took integrity away from a character that I really wanted to like. The words
put in her mouth by the script writers took away her ability to be a smart,
powerful woman who could be a role model to young women. That is the whole pedestal
that Sony wanted this movie to be on and now after seeing the movie, I
understand that they made the women characters very weak and not good role
models for someone like my daughter. I am kind of angry and disheartened by
that because this is something that was made such a big deal about in the press
circuit coming from the public relations of Sony and their own reasoning for
making an all female team. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">One of my friends said it best during the second showing, “If
you want to make a strong female team of role models for young girls, make a
strong world they live in and let them thrive.” </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">This movie universe has a lot of dumb moments and that is
the glaring mistake of it. Kevin is a dumb secretary which is actually funny.
The mayor is a dumb politician who has a snarky handler who needs to tell him
simple things in simple ways. The mayor’s snarky handler does not respect these
women scientists. The federal agents in this movie down talk these women and in
the end of the movie get stuck in a Saturday Night Fever disco pose. The dean
at the college is a disrespectful slob of a male in a Hawaiian shirt. The
delivery boy Benny can’t understand how to put wontons in a bucket. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">It's just a weird, unintelligent world in which the female ‘busters
don’t thrive in because they are created in such a way that makes them dumber
than the average person.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">That’s my problem with this movie. It’s disrespectful of its
self in a parody kind of way where the dialogue is not realistic but rather a
long form of a running joke. (Case in point; the opening scene with Erin
Gilbert talking to Ed Mulgrave about her book where she tries to play it off
that she is not the author but he mentions the picture of her. It just keeps
going on like a joke in the Scary Movie franchise. And I am talking like Scary
Movie 4…)</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">In my video reaction, I also bring up the fact that they
break the rules of the “catch and trap” method that Ghostbusters is built upon.
This movie sets up the premise of the ghost trap for a cameo plot point but
that’s about it. In the third act, the team starts to kill ghosts with not a
trap in sight. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">I was really mad about this rule breaking as a huge fan of
Ghostbusters and during my second showing, one of my friends pointed out to me
that they establish why this happens in the book tie-in by Andrew Schaffer
called “Ghosts from our Past.”</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">While it makes sense to me, I feel like I shouldn’t need a
book to explain a major rule break in a franchise and while I own the book
personally, most the audience who sees this won’t. Anyone with an inkling of
Ghostbusters might raise an eyebrow just as I did which hurts this movie as it
was claimed that the production crew had “such love and respect for the brand.”</span></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";"><b>Final Verdict</b></span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">Ghostbusters: Answer the Call is not my Ghostbusters.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">It is a parody, joke forced driven movie that has bland
characters set in a world that is unintelligent and tries to redefine the rules
set forth by a beloved movie prior. It feels almost like a copyright
infringement project to anyone who goes into this movie with the idea that it
is Ghostbusters. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">If you can wipe out the ideas and memories of the originals
from your head for two hours, it becomes a summer popcorn movie with great
special effects and a few laughs along the way. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">I hope that this movie does do well so we can get a proper
addition to the Ghostbusters franchise somehow, some way. I have enjoyed my
summer because of the vacuum pull of marketing that this movie created in its
wake. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">If Sony realizes one thing from all of this, it’s not about misogyny;
it’s that the love for the Ghostbusters brand is still very much alive but this
was a misstep. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">I am not afraid of no ghost and Sony shouldn’t be afraid to
put honest work into this property going forward.</span></div>

I am not really sure what DOMO is other than an angry little Japanese mascot of sorts but he crossed over into Ghostbusters and after much drooling at crane machine games last year, I had discovered a family member was a crane machine wizard and plucked this guy specifically for me. <br />

This nifty little book arrived in my June 2016 Nerd Block! It's arrival is bittersweet as it's AMAZEBALLS but at the same time, I just ordered the original red covered one three days prior as I had no idea this was on its way. <br />
<br />
Only difference is the cover. <br />
<br />
Review to come.<br />

I am still supporting you, BURRRRRRRNHAAAAAAAAM! *shakes fist*<br />

<br />
Of course, I celebrated Ghostbusters Day on June 8, 2016!<br />
<br />
The day's moniker comes from the original 1984 classic movie's opening day in 1984. To celebrate the occasion, Fathom Events held screenings of the 80s movie in theatres worldwide. Being that Duluth had one, I figured it would be a swell time to buddy up with Matt and hit the town!<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>The day started off per Matt and I's usual Ghostbusters adventures tradition of getting our jumpsuits on in a Walmart parking lot. The first time that we did this was for a kid's birthday party and after we laced up the boots, we had several ladies walk up to us and whistle. Apparently, they got a kick out of us putting on khaki jumpsuits and somehow remained quiet in their vehicles. <br />
<br />
This time we weren't so celebrated with our dressings. <br />
<br />
To kick off the occasion, we both exchanged gifts with one another; as a collector of nostalgia, I had a large box full of goodies for Matt and he had gathered a variety of Ghostbusters things for me. It was fun to see Matt dig threw his box of an ALF plush, various Ghostbusters items like the Winston POP FUNKO ride, and a plethora of shirts from the Horror Block subscription that my wife had no interest in. As for what he found me, there were a few posters of the Ghostbusters pinball machine and some Ghostbusters themed Campfire Marshmallows. It's really hard to find me things that I do not already have so the posters were a great gift and I need to get those framed well. <br />
<br />

<br />
Once we got on the road, Matt made it pretty clear he wanted some Key Lime Slime Twinkies and some ECTO Cooler. Knowing this from our planning conversations, I had saved one of the two 10 packs of <a href="http://whoyagonnacollect.blogspot.com/2016/05/the-holy-search-for-ecto-cooler.html">ECTO Cooler I had found previously for this day</a>. <br />
<br />
One fun project that we had discussed for the day was to film a "In Search Of..." video for ECTO Cooler. Matt works for a local production studio who helps liaison Hollywood films in Northern Minnesota so I left the filming in his hands for this. I am not much of on screen talent but I am also not the absolute worst either so I am excited to see how the video turns out. We did a video for a birthday party we attended and I wasn't so hot in that one so I tried to improve from my mistakes. <br />
<br />
The birthday video can be seen here: <br />
<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="true" allowtransparency="true" frameborder="0" height="315" scrolling="no" src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fghostbustersnorth%2Fvideos%2F1760548580845910%2F&show_text=0&width=560" style="border: none; overflow: hidden;" width="560"></iframe>
<br />
<br />
As we sipped ECTO Cooler while cruising down the highway at 70 mph in the ECTO-Edge, we discussed our day's plans and agreed that we needed to do some "treasure seeking" for nostalgia. I didn't realize that Matt was also a big thrift store shopper and that made the day's adventures a bit brighter. <br />
<br />
Also, we didn't care that we were in FULL Ghostbusters uniforms and we were going shopping just as "normal" people would. <br />
<br />
During our travels, we stopped at the first Walmart that we came upon in Hermantown, Minnesota. Matt was hell bent on getting ECTO Cooler in the wild and he needed those Twinkies. I needed to scour for some new Ghostbusters toys from the upcoming reboot so I was for this stop. <br />
<br />
We strolled into the Walmart in full jumpsuit glory and it took about 24 seconds for someone to notice us and start singing the song. It was a pretty special feeling to do this and neither one of us cared. It's almost a certain high that you don't experience every day and you just are on pins and needles to see the reactions of the public. <br />
<br />
We made a sharp left past the pharmacy and into the toys section at this store. I immediately saw the end cap of plush Slimers and Stay Pufts. Given that I had bought several of these already for Harper, my daughter, I decided to pass on them today. I gave way to the aisle and hoped not to find the black hole void that most stores had for their Ghostbusters toy display. <br />
<br />
But yes... this aisle was barren as well. <br />
<br />
We stood there dumbfounded and talking about the cool toys that should be there. I do need the two other squeeze toys of the Rat Ghost (blue) and the Splitting Ghost (yellow) to accompany my Slimer Gelatin toy. This store had the blue Rat Ghost but someone with too much stress had already broken him and only his rubber shell remained. <br />
<br />
I let out a sigh but Matt cast his eyes to the top of the shelf and spotted the tongue stretching Slimer toy that I had looked EVERYWHERE for. (I actually admitted defeat and thought he was going to be a Toys R Us exclusive.) He was going home with me! <br />
<br />
While in my excitement, I heard a young boy lit up with excitement nearby as he exclaimed, "Mom, look they have a Slimer!" He was referring to the end cap that we had just been at and it was refreshing to hear this come from a younger person. <br />
<br />
His mom tried to brush him off with the usual parenting and told him to go look down the aisle to see if they had anything else he wanted "more." He must have been a budding Ghostbusters fan as his mom KNEW there were more toys down that aisle. <br />
<br />
She stopped in her tracks when she saw us and backed up to him. I could hear her whispering to him and telling him to go "look that way." I saw him bumble and shuffle at the entrance to the aisle and immediately get shy. He was in disbelief. This was the best day of his young life as he saw HIS heroes, in REAL LIFE. <br />
<br />
Mind blown. <br />
<br />
We walked towards him but he couldn't make out words. He just stood there dumbfounded and happy. It was great. We did our best not to embarrass him and just gave him a simple wave. While walking away from the young boy, an adult male told us that there was a green ghost sliming up the aisles to which I held up the Slimer toy and said, "We already got him!" The man gave us a smile and cheered. <br />
<br />
In the span of 20 feet, we had a fan club ranging from 6 years old to 53 years old. <br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>That's the power of Ghostbusters.</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
When we arrived in Duluth, I knew we had to go to their Cub Foods to see if they got more ECTO Cooler in stock. This is the place where I had my original success getting the nostalgic drink. And we were lucky to find some more! <br />
<br />
Matt was amazed and determined that he would also find the Twinkies here. He did not sadly. <br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
After our ECTO Cooler adventure, we made our way to Canal Park to visit one of my favorite antique stores in "Father Time Antiques." This place has always been good to me as a variety mall of different vendors who rummage the wilderness to provide items to their tiny corner consignment shops. In the past, I have walked out of this place with a Jurassic Park series 1 T-Rex, 3 ALF plushes (one of which I gave to Matt), Gremlins books, and other odds and ends of my childhood. <br />
<br />
And the best thing was that Matt had never been here prior despite living in Duluth for a while!<br />
<br />
We walked, talked, and perused the goods at Father Time for about an hour. Towards the end of it, a young boy in a Ghostbusters shirt came up to us with his mom and asked if he could take his picture with us. We couldn't say no obviously and did our best to make his day. We asked the boy and his mom if they were going to the movie screening tonight but they told us that they weren't. In fact, he wasn't even aware it was Ghostbusters Day! He was just such a fan that he decided to wear that shirt and that made the moment even cooler to us. <br />
<br />
We walked about Canal Park for a while longer that day and decided to take some tourist photos of the Aerial Lift Bridge in Duluth. It was fun to be with this crowd of people in our uniforms because people didn't know if we were in costume or for real. They only knew we were Ghostbusters. <br />

<br />
<br />
It was almost show time for the movie and we still had to eat. We made a beeline for Taco Bell as I don't get much of that when I am in Duluth with my wife. Matt had suggested it and it was a good one. <br />
<br />
Once in Taco Bell, we once again were a hit of the day for a lot of folks. The cashier tried her best to make it a "normal" thing but you could see her smirk. It wasn't until a loud cry came out of the food prep area that we knew we made an impact. <br />
<br />
You see... our Taco Bell isn't like JUST any Taco Bell. <a href="http://theumdstatesman.com/2014/11/23/tacobellguy/">There is one worker who prides himself</a> on making customers days and it was him that had cried out from the back. (Seriously, take the time to read that article that I linked... he's an awesome dude.)<br />
<br />
"HOLY STUFF! YOU GUYS DIDNT TELL ME THERE WERE GHOSTBUSTERS HERE!?" he said as he paced about the back of the food prep area. "This is amazing. Day made. Where's the car?! And the packs?!" <br />
<br />
He came out with a tray with our food on it and he said, "All right guys, where are we sitting?" I wasn't used to this and thought he was going to crash with us, which honestly was fine with me. Instead, he brought out our food to the table of his choosing as we let him "Choose the form of the destructor." He was besides himself. <br />
<br />
After digging into our tacos among the many stares of the other patrons, our loyal Taco Bell friend returned to us with two Apple Empanadas. <br />
<br />
"These are on me. I am just so blown away that people love what I love. You guys made my freggin' week!"<br />
<br />
We thanked him for the gift and Matt smiled back at me because well, free food is the best kind of food, right? <br />
<br />
We were crunched for time which was unfortunate as I was still planning on looking at a new PC from Best Buy. This wasn't going to happen with our scheduling. <br />

<br />
It was 6:58 PM and we arrived to the 7 pm showing just in time. I decided to make the grand entrance by strapping on the proton pack and googles. We walked into the theatre and approached the young girl working the ticket counter. <br />
<br />
She stood there flabbergasted.<br />
<br />
"Ahhh, let me see.... two for X-Men, please..." I said.<br />
<br />
"Yeah right," she answered. <br />
<br />
Touche. <br />
<br />
Tickets in hand, we entered the theatre and the cheers rained down even in the dark. <br />

<br />
<br />
Shortly after this, Matt's friend Jordan and his fiancée, had joined us in the dark theatre and I started to feel a bit out of place with the pack and googles in a DARK theatre. They were pointless and I wanted to still spec out a PC before Best Buy closed at 9 pm. (The movie would end approximately 9:30)<br />
<br />
We sat there in the Fathom Events information screen with a countdown of 30 mintues. We had rushed to the theatre and found ourselves at a start time of 7:30 PM. I am still not sure what that was about... <br />
<br />
I stuck around through this waiting period as I watned to see the new 2016 preview that would accompany this feature. Once the countdown ended, we were instructed that this would appear at the end of the credits. <br />
<br />
I told Matt that I was going to run to Best Buy to look for PCs and be right back. After all, I owned this movie on 5 different formats and over 9 times. I could miss the first half. <br />
<br />
I raced out of the theatre with pack in hand and boarded the ECTO. I got to Best Buy and blew through the doors as it were the Sedgewick Hotel. I gawked and stepped through the PC section with a frantic desire to find something that fit my budget and needs. <br />
<br />
And of course, all day I had been cheered for my Ghostbusters uniform and now no one here wanted to help "that guy." <br />
<br />
Once someone finally approached me, I felt the need to explain the get up; "It's Ghostbusters day...." as I motioned up and down myself like Vanna White does to a R. <br />
<br />
"Hey man, to each there own... I don't ask questions," he replied. <br />
<br />
Cool. I get it. All college aged kids go through Best Buy at some point and if you aren't a red solo cup, you ain't shit. <br />
<br />
He admitted to me that he wasn't the expert on PCs and that he would get me with someone who was. The rest of my transaction was with a young girl who seemed to get a kick out of my appearance which was nice for this 30 year old dad of one. <br />
<br />
I got the PC and high tailed it back to the theatres. I motioned to the girl at the ticket counter that I was already paid but she cut me off and said, "You...you're good." <br />
<br />
The antics at Best Buy had me tied up so late that I came into the movie where Peter is bringing flowers to Dana's apartment. She's gone full Zuul and that's never good. <br />
<br />

After the movie, the 2016 movie had its featurette shown and while I hold my hopes high for this new adventure after much thought, it might be in a bit of trouble; a half full theatre of paid moviegoers did not laugh, chuckle, or chortle during the feature. It was just quiet. <br />

<br />
<br />
The movie wrapped up and as we stepped into the lobby, another patron had been waiting for us. He was in his late 40s to mid 50s and had the stench of still living at home with his mom. He had scraggly hair tucked under a trucker cap and was wearing black denim. For some reason, he had an iPad with him at the movies. <br />
<br />
In other words, this was the something strange in your neighborhood.<br />
<br />
"Do you guys mind sticking around? I told my friend about you guys and she wants to meet you," he said to us while navigating Facebook. "This is her. Ain't she hot?"<br />
<br />
He showed us a photo of a woman in her late 20s who was wearing a black bikini during what appeared to be a semi professional modeling photoshoot. <br />
<br />
It only added up as he was that creepy guy who must be giving her money. That kind of friendship.<br />
<br />
We were dumbfounded and it only was until Jordan's fiancée made a plausible sentence of, "Oh yeah, she's hot." <br />
<br />
He then went on to ask us where we got our stuff and I replied with a snarky, "Oh, corporate sent it." He asked where our home offices were so I answered with "Los Angeles" in reference to Ghost Corps' offices. He took it seriously that we were the Hollywood types. <br />
<br />
It was at this time that her and Jordan decided to say their "we are getting the hell out of here" speech and part ways with us. After this, Matt and I realized that we had lost our creepy new friend. <br />
<br />
Not two to disappoint our fans, we looked around a bit and did some PKE scans for him. <br />
<br />
No sign of him. <br />
<br />
So we decided to leave. <br />
<br />
Halfway to the ECTO, he found us. And she wasn't coming. <br />
<br />
Who could blame her? <br />
<br />
So he asked us if we could settle for a picture and we were happy to oblige. Matt took out his phone and asked if he would take a photo of us as well:<br />

Ghostbusters Day 2016 was fun day with a great friend. It had all the makings of a success; ECTO Cooler, Slimers, kids getting their days made, free food and ended up with a really odd moment. <br />
<br />
Sorry this post got a bit long and for all those that stuck around, thank you. I wanted to make sure that I collected this adventure so it would not be forgotten!<br />
<br />
And lastly, this sweet jersey from GeekyJerseys.com showed up too! What are the chances that it showed up on GHOSTBUSTERS DAY!?!?<br />

<br />
An odd product tie in... Ghostbusters Marshmallow Shooter!<br />
<br />
When I did the Minneapolis thing back in March, I made a pilgrimage to Toys R Us since there isn't one close to me. I was on the search for the Diamond Select Toys 7" Ghostbusters figures but struck out on them. While at the checkouts, I spotted this behind a stock pull cart and excused myself from the cashier to grab it. By doing so, a whole rack of shit fell on me and I had to have some help getting pulled out from under it.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
I never thought I'd actually add this to my collection and never really cared to add it... until I struck out on Diamond Select Toy figures. At $20 for the gun, it wasn't an enjoyable purchase and really, it has a few stickers and poor packaging. Hell, it doesn't even look like a thrower.<br />
<br />
THE GHOSTBUSTERS HAD GUN LIKE OBJECTS AND YOU GAVE US THIS?!<br />
<br />
It's a odd Ghostbusters product and in my honest opinion, a half assed attempt at product license.<br />
<br />
That is why it's in my collection. This item alone signifies EXACTLY WHY it's a good thing that the new movie is bringing out new merchandise with good figures, great Slimer toys, and AMAZING product packaging.<br />
<br />
And as many have pointed out, the new 2016 Camp Fire brand marshmallows won't fit in it.<br />

Back when I picked up the <a href="http://whoyagonnacollect.blogspot.com/2016/06/tmnt-eve-finding-figures-friday.html" target="_blank">TMNT figures from Duluth</a>, I found these guys as well!<br />
<br />
The problem that I have found with The Real Ghostbusters toys is that it's kinda rare to find them and when I ask vintage toy collectors about them, they find them.<br />
<br />
Buuuuuut.....<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
....they are always the most common figures and I have three of them already and being that they are Ghostbusters, they price them ridiculously high. So when I pass on them, I feel like I am the bad guy...<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The Screaming Heroes lineup was always cool as you wound them up and hit a trigger where they would spin around in crazy ways. These things had some serious power too! Sadly, age has not been good to them as kids often got them wet which rusted out the springs, overwound them, or just abused the hell out of them. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Nonetheless, I really love previously loved toys as they show a lifetime of adventures that some kid put them through.</div>

I was lucky enough to become a dad in February to a daughter named Harper. She has already gone through a lot of stuff including an open heart surgery at a week old. She's thriving and doing well which is amazing.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
I wanted to take some time to share this photo of being able to get her a proton pack of her very own. I am keeping this in the box and giving her the pleasure of opening it herself one day. This will go well with the Little Tykes ECTO-1 that is 75% complete for her. (When we found out the news that she was on the way, I worked on one and it's just missing the light bars and a few finishing things.)<br />

<br />
While we were in at Children's Minneapolis, my fire department did a benefit fundraiser for Harper that included a silent auction. We were very fortunate to have Sony Pictures' Ghost Corp office donate a prize package to the silent auction.<br />
<br />
I got the prize package ironically enough as my father, father-in-law, and co-worker all bid on the package with the intent to give it to me but were unaware that it was a group effort with the same intentions!<br />
<br />
The package included an exclusive Ghost Corp only "Ghostbusters" beanie hat and the Ghostbusters & Ghostbusters II blu-ray set with a Slimer statue. I was happy to get the package and haven't opened the blu-ray set as I think it's cool that it came from Ghost Corp. As for the hat, oh, I am so wearing that in the winter!<br />
<br />
Even cooler than the package sent was this letter that Eric Reich from Ghost Corp sent me:<br />

<br />
Of all the Ghostbusters 2016...errr, "Answer The Call" toys released, two really caught my eye; the squeezable Slimer and the Slimer whose tongue you could pull.<br />
<br />
The spud is classic.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
I am far, far away from a Toys R Us and don't wanna ruin the fun with online shopping which made finding him a bit tricky. Honestly, I didn't think I would find him in the wild.<br />
<br />
However, the new SOOPER Walmart that opened a few years ago has a decent toy aisle and didn't disappoint. (My local Walmart has a terrible toy selection; isn't it odd how the stores vary based on demographic data that is complete bullshit?)<br />
<br />
He was there with the blue rat ghost but when my wife saw me pick up both for $10 each, she gave me <i>that</i> look. Choices were made and because I am me, I took the box to help mend the heart on the loss of rat ghost. (The ghost trap ECTO minis playset was also there but I didn't dare.)<br />
<br />
Silver linings of it all is that there were only two ghosts left in a box that holds six so these things are selling!<br />
<br />
The box itself is amazing and I really wanna hug the design team who is doing the marketing. As a graphic designer, i pick things apart a lot and this is pretty atheistically pleasing.<br />
<br />
I am not sure how Slimer will hold up for years to come so I am trying to enjoy him as much as I can now:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgArkaU9UEkkOpPjbjFDHchq7Gsm0hCehrBE2_oFdHWjA1ihhQHDxqczQlH89jyDbJv8KaCliSyw8qWRfbN7LGZgCNesFlnGw1L3E9c7r2Dv7NzPzkWd-8VwGZJWiKwGWYEtW69NBARRuSV/s1600/20160531_215818.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgArkaU9UEkkOpPjbjFDHchq7Gsm0hCehrBE2_oFdHWjA1ihhQHDxqczQlH89jyDbJv8KaCliSyw8qWRfbN7LGZgCNesFlnGw1L3E9c7r2Dv7NzPzkWd-8VwGZJWiKwGWYEtW69NBARRuSV/s640/20160531_215818.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The hunt continues for the tongue stretch Slimer but hopefully I'll be able to land him soon.<br />
<br />
I find it absolutely amazing to have that feeling of being excited to go into a a retailer that sells NEW things and have that moment of choice to pick ONE new toy off the shelf.<br />
<br />

<br />
This fun little line of figures comes from Funko! in a series called "Dorbz." (I am not going to cross that threshold of why.)<br />
<br />
I had a hell of a time tracking these down in the wild. I found Stay Puft via GameStop at the Mall of America while I tracked down treasures in Minneapolis. As for the guys, I begged and pleaded every GameStop employee to look them up in their systems but they oddly aren't listed. They carry every other fucking Dorbz character and even TWO Stay Pufts AND the ECTO-1.<br />
<br />
What the holy hell, GameStop?<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
I for some reason don't like just ordering things online I think I can find in the wild so I was dedicated to finding these.<br />
<br />
I am not from Minneapolis so I asked a Facebook group called "Twin Cities Geeks" advice on where to find vintage action figures like Ghostbusters and TMNT. They highly recommended a few shops and luckily, Hot Comics and Collectibles in Richfield, MN came through in a big way.<br />
<br />
They actually were the honey pot of Ghostbusters new wave collectibles from Diamond Select and Funko. I spent too much money at the store... so much that I left one piece behind to keep the total down and it ate away at me that I left something behind.<br />
<br />
So I went back a few days later for that Stay Puft bottle opener.<br />
<br />
Anyways, the boxes for these guys aren't that cool and the line is not as collectibly popular as their POP! cousins so they escaped the boxes. I am really glad that I made that decision as these are fun little figures when held in your hand.<br />
<br />
I was also able to find the ECTO-1 at the Mall of America GameStop which was never on my radar so it was a great surprise when I saw it on the shelf.<br />
<br />

<br />
When I got home, I heard about a Stay Puft variant with the burnt marshmallow. This is getting pretty popular to go this route with the giant sailor. Little did I know how rare this son of a bitch is...<br />
<br />
As I have mentioned in previous posts, some of my best friends work at the local GameStop and hold Ghostbusters merchandise for me. I got to talking with two of them about this variant and since I did it in two different conversations, mistakes were made.<br />
<br />
I got two Stay Puft variants of the Dorbz. One came from Ohio and another from Texas.<br />
<br />
The guilt of my actions and fear of them being mad at me for having these guys sit on the shelf pushed me into buying both of them. I am not sure what I will do with the extra yet but the story gets even funnier because the GameStop system recognized that Ghostbusters merchandise is hot in this store because of me. Naturally, a few days later another one showed up and still sits on the shelf.<br />
<br />
Maybe I can trade him or sell him off so I can continue to add to the collection.<br />
<br />
Hopefully, the Stay Puft guilt syndrome doesnt strike again for that third Dorbz...<br />

FUNKO! Toys owns a large part of my soul.<br />

These cute vinyl figures have been something that has found their way into my heart and onto my shelves. The stylized characters are translated from so many sources that I had to promise my wife that I'd stop buying all the ones I liked.<br />
<br />
But Ghostbusters. There's my loophole.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
It was cool too because the nearest POP! Shop near me was an hour's drive away at the nearest Hot Topic.<br />
<br />
Then GameStop started selling them. And that's a 7 minute drive.<br />
<br />
It's become an issue to the point where the staff save me the Ghostbusters ones and text me the shipment updates as they arrive.<br />
<br />
Fuck it.<br />
<i><br /></i>
<i>Hello, my name is Adam and I am a POP! Funko addict..."</i><br />
<br />
It's cool though I guess. I was lucky enough to have a White Ranger from the Power Rangers POP series and that recently left me for a cool profit that has gone to collecting the new 2016 Ghostbusters merchandise. I have been trying to weed out my collecting trophies to single it down to TMNT and Ghostbusters.<br />
<br />
At any rate, I was lucky enough to have stumbled upon this amazing Rowan figure from the new movie line. For those who aren't aware yet, he's the big baddy from the new movie and has a lot of mystery to him still. The new Mattel line up has him looking like Louie Anderson so this cute version of him is a nice departure. It says to me, "Forget the villain angle, I am more logo ghost than Rowan. Remember all those Saturday Mornings we spent together in The Real Ghostbusters bumpers?"<br />
<br />
He's a cool dude and if I find another one, I am going to snatch his ass up to put in the ECTO. I also love his box so much that, like 98% of my other POPs, he is staying in it.<br />
<br />
Amazing work on the box by Funko:<br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I also stumbled upon a few of the ladies from the new film but decided that the search for ECTO Cooler was more important and the funds were better used in that procurement.<br />
<br />
I also really loathe Melissa McCarthy and it's hard for me to buy anything of her. You can imagine the struggle as a Ghostbusters collector and this internal conflict that I battle with. I did end up buying her Mattel figure but it was the Rowan Build-A-Figure that won that over for me.<br />

<br />
When I go on adventures to find toys and nostalgic items, it's getting really hard to find Turtles. I thought it was the resurgence of the new TMNT wave but I am starting to think that it is just the pure love for these old Playmate Toys.<br />
<br />
Today I got lucky.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
There is a fairly new toy collector store in the area called "Toy Galaxy." I am gonna give him a plug because he's a righteous dude who has some really great stuff in his store ranging from Masters of the Universe, full boxes of cereal from the 1970s and 7-11 superhero cups.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuSrCOUJuTcRY5yngvTiOELsSHlby5F1-4ErgjMgkbcL6JjCICEYguvoM8arSWzn40_gXmYgh99X0hVpC9DSnfWaL8BHp-vgIczVZPJKHKeGGLYHqKYmR3LHTPHIMQZLo50cHNvPrGTUZh/s1600/20160531_215151.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuSrCOUJuTcRY5yngvTiOELsSHlby5F1-4ErgjMgkbcL6JjCICEYguvoM8arSWzn40_gXmYgh99X0hVpC9DSnfWaL8BHp-vgIczVZPJKHKeGGLYHqKYmR3LHTPHIMQZLo50cHNvPrGTUZh/s640/20160531_215151.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The place has got some awesomeness in it including:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><i>CASTLE GREYSKULL! </i></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
I may have to go into this place one day and just take photos of the awesomeness that he has in store and last time that I was here, I was able to score a unwrapped box of "The Real Ghostbusters" gummies:<br />

Since I was in the area, I decided to see how his store was unveiling and I am glad that I did as I found two great groups of pick ups. Today, I am going to talk about one of them and I'll save one for a later date soon.<br />
<br />
Since Friday launches the new TMNT movie, "Out of the Shadows," it's time to talk mutants:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Sitting in a white basket on a shelf, there was a pile of miscellaneous Turtles from the original line up. Among the many different variations of Leo, Raph, Mikey, and Don, there were General Traag, Bebop, and the Rat King.<br />
<br />
I don't know much about my TMNT collection and it's inventory so I took a shot in the dark on these. General Traag was a question mark but upon further checking, I am gladly that I grabbed him.<br />
<br />
Bebop is always a great pick up as he's just classic. (I already had him but will include him in a trade to maybe gain his counter part in Rocksteady.)<br />
<br />
The Rat King is a piece that I knew I didn't have. I never had him as a child and there's just an allure to his character for me. His design is great and always seemed like such a weird character.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I have always loved the Playmate Toy lineup for doing odd sculpting and little weird details. This Rat King figure has obvious rats climbing about his torso, bones sticking in his fabric to appear as garbage from the world he lives in, spiders and worms crawling among his mucky garbs, and those crazy ginger red eyes.<br />
<br />
Just a cool figure.<br />
<br />
As long as he's been on my want list, there is one figure that made me feel ecstatic about finding this basket:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQxGPkSfe_y5Ast2-t2R0b9287mTIOw-uz2XJx4iivYeiUAS1U0xLK7bT9Exz2H9VeNE1DvqTV1VYXkZY5ZA_WWxaHOyQkzkQXt_l-6lvqVvvYFA5CPzcB3loXPKOVmh1sjAql_LtZu6JR/s1600/20160531_214848.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQxGPkSfe_y5Ast2-t2R0b9287mTIOw-uz2XJx4iivYeiUAS1U0xLK7bT9Exz2H9VeNE1DvqTV1VYXkZY5ZA_WWxaHOyQkzkQXt_l-6lvqVvvYFA5CPzcB3loXPKOVmh1sjAql_LtZu6JR/s640/20160531_214848.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Ace Motherlovin' Duck.<br />
<br />
Ace was one of my first TMNT figures as a kid and I have just loved his whole demeanor. (My first was Ghengis Frog) He's got a sweeeeeeeet bomber jacket that has the Turtles logo on his back.<br />
<br />
I was a big Disney fan and another anormorphic duck was like finding a long lost cousin who had the same interests as you. (Maybe this is why I am a big Anaheim Ducks fan...?) His stature even reminds me of Howard the Duck from the epic 1980s movie.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It's been a hard search for anything classic TMNT and to stumble upon a basket of goodness was a welcome addition to my day.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>BONUS:</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A few weeks ago, I was stationed in Minneapolis due to my daughter's birth and heart surgery. To escape the stress of the hospital, I often went on adventures to find nostalgic stuff. I also had it on my bucket list while there to visit a Toys R Us as they simply don't exist near me. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
While searching for the Ghostbusters Diamond Select Toys, I found ONE Raphael from the Classic line that Nickelodeon re-released with Playmate Toys. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Such great packaging:</div>

<br />
To help celebrate the upcoming Summer of Ghostbusters, I wanted to ask the Ghosthead Community to come up with some fun and creative challenges for photo or video opportunities to post on social media.<br />
<br />
<strike>I'll be honest; there is no prize at the time of this writing. It's more so a challenge for all the fans and franchises of the Ghostbusters brand to go forth and create something awesome.</strike><br />
<strike><br /></strike>
<b>Prizes have been added and will be awarded to the beset three photos.</b> We are looking for creativity and amazing rises to the challenge here. The more challenges you complete in an epic way, the better your odds of winning. <br />
<br />
We are keeping the prizes a mystery so far but they are some of the more rare current Ghostbusters merchandise that has escaped the clutches of collectors. Perhaps some ECTO Cooler or Hot Wheels 2 pack action? Maybe a rare version of the Destroyer who isn't such a bad guy? <br />
<br />
<i><b>It's easy to play along; take up a challenge from the list of 84 below, take a photo or video proving your completion of the challenge and lastly post it to your favorite social media platform with the hashtag: #GBHunt with the challenge's title.</b></i><br />
<br />
<i><b><span style="color: red;">For the next few days, if you have an idea for a challenge that you'd like to see on the list, please <a href="https://twitter.com/heroic35" target="_blank">Tweet it at @heroic35 </a>or message it via the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/whoyagonnacollect/" target="_blank">WhoYaGonnaCollect Facebook</a> page. Any unsafe or illegal activities will not be considered. </span></b></i><br />
<i><b><span style="color: red;"><br /></span></b></i>
<i><b><span style="color: red;">If you create the challenge, you can name it! This is actually great seeing as this list could be pulled for future events and cons which means there is your name alongside it!</span></b></i><br />
<br />
The most creative, funny, or entertaining entries will be featured here in a future date.<br />
<br />
Let's get going!<br />
<br />

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEietZZX9G91EFGWq3_Gp1SjB0Ks2X_9NRoOxwB9QjLY0RgXfAU82j8nJWznw4A53F2DgemjoczIGjny0nLzmipVNRGzrgQviXHxzUR_auXN3mhAKLcsuG6bCIkhd3v09ONlskVIA59C3-OH/s1600/ectocooler-label-700x376.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="342" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEietZZX9G91EFGWq3_Gp1SjB0Ks2X_9NRoOxwB9QjLY0RgXfAU82j8nJWznw4A53F2DgemjoczIGjny0nLzmipVNRGzrgQviXHxzUR_auXN3mhAKLcsuG6bCIkhd3v09ONlskVIA59C3-OH/s640/ectocooler-label-700x376.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
Well, if you haven't heard yet, you're under a rock. Blink twice for help. <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
No...? Just a grimace of pain?</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I'll take that grimace and grunt as a sign that you are still on the search for the nostalgic item of the summer; Hi-C's ECTO COOLER.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Yes, it's all true that ECTO COOLER returned to this dimension on May 30th. (Memorial Day in the US) It has <a href="http://dinosaurdracula.com/blog/ecto-cooler-history/" target="_blank">been a long and chronicled search for the orange tangerine citrus drink</a> that used to haunt our lunch bags in the 1990s. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
From Coca Cola's Press Release earlier this year: </div>
<br /><blockquote class="tr_bq">
“Hi-C Ecto Cooler will be sold in 10-packs of 6-ounce juice boxes and in 6- and 12-packs of 11.5-ounce aluminum cans. The cans are specially printed using thermal ink that turns an eerie shade of slime green when the product inside is cold.”</blockquote>
<br />ECTO COOLER's Twitter advocate has warned us that this will not be an "everywhere" launch on May 30th but rather a slow rollout of the beverage to retailers. But the search has begun which has <a href="http://dinosaurdracula.com/blog/ecto-cooler-adventure/" target="_blank">led many to great adventures to find the orange tangy slime</a>. <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Myself included. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<a name='more'></a></div>
<div>
On May 30th, I had begun the search myself at the local Walmart as <a href="http://www.ecto.cool/" target="_blank">ECTO COOLER's official site</a> lists them as a major distributor. I have found it damn near impossible to even ask for help from Walmart employees so when it wasn't on the shelf, I gave up. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I knew that my daughter had a doctor's appointment in Duluth, Minnesota and this granted me the ability to search a Cub Foods. This was another major partner of Coca Cola's new release. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
However, on the ride, I got impatient. I was on baby duty for our three month old in the backseat of the car and I had my iPad with me. I remember seeing that Craig (from the Yes, Have Some Podcast) had order some online from a retailer called HEB. (In Minnesota, we do not have HEB so it's like ordering from Mars with high hopes.)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The HEB website listed the thermal ink cans in a case with a limit of only 4 per customer. I was excited to see this still in stock as Amazon has been useless to me almost all my life including this ECTO COOLER launch. I decided I would not get greedy and selected a quantity of 2 cases. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I was pumped. The ECTO COOLER cans would be perfect for the GHOSTBUSTERS NORTH event coming up where we were attending a Fathom Event for the screening of the original Ghostbusters movie on June 8. We were 8 days away and this would give enough time for shipping as the website stated any orders before noon would ship the same day. It was currently 11:39 AM. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I put in my information for the order and honestly for the price of $9 per case, I wasn't mad. I planned on keeping some cans for the ECTO Cave and these would be portable for the event. Much better than the juice boxes. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Then the website crashed on me. I re-entered my information and was told that there was only a case left. So I had to re-enter all my information again and resubmit the order. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
OUT OF STOCK.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I seriously ran the gauntlet of bad timing for this order and lost. The odds of that happening made me disbelieve the reality of the situation.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Bye bye cans. Adios cool toasting in jumpsuit. The beverage of THE DAY for June 8 was off the table. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
My wife and I carried on with the day by attending our daughter's doctor appointment. Everything was great there and after having a baby with an open heart surgery, we couldn't have lucked out better. The relief of that made me kind of forget about "the search."</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Until my wife said, "Where's Cub Foods at?" </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Oh yeah! We were going to stop there I gave her the directions and she thought it silly to run in for a kids drink. She has no partial nostalgia to this drink. If it were something "Tales from the Crypt," we would have driven to Utah for it. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I ran into Cub Foods and I'll be honest that I am not a Cub Foods shopper. I have been in a Cub Foods four times in my life. Total. Orientating myself to the layout of this store was like coming out of a flashbang pop but thanks to those handy signs over the aisles, I was in business. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
PICKLES</div>
<div>
KETCHUP</div>
<div>
OLIVES</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Nope.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
CEREAL</div>
<div>
OATMEAL</div>
<div>
TOASTER PASTRIES</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Nope.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
CANNED FRUIT</div>
<div>
SPORTS DRINKS</div>
<div>
JUICE</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Yep.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I ran my 31 year old buns down the aisle looking for the Hi-C juice box packages because I knew that the cans were online only or exclusive to Cinemark theaters. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Juicy Juice. Nope. Orchard Farms. Uh uh. Motts. Not today. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Then I came to the realization that this aisle had not a single Hi-C product. I remembered that the official website states:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
Look for it in the juice aisle at these retailers and check back often as this list grows.</blockquote>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I double checked. I tripled checked. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
None. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I searched other aisle. I found the soda section and checked there. I looked at aisle specialty stands. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I could almost hear the 1990s box art Slimer laughing at me. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Finally, I saw two employees stocking shelves and laughing about some girl that they both knew. They were bantering about some college conversation about partying and weekends. Being that I am almost as old enough to be their dad (FML by the way), I asked if they carried Hi-C. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
"Yeah, uhh, Hi-C is in aisle six."</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I panicked because I just spent 6 minutes in Heartbreak City and mailed my grandmother a postcard from there. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
"Did you guys get ECTO COOLER?"</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
"We did... *slight anger and confusion* We only got one case and I don't know if there is any left..." </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Fuck it. I am off. Exit stage left. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I end up in aisle six which is a fuckery of an aisle that was made up in Trump's America. It's the, and I kid you not, "LUNCH BOX AISLE." </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
WHO THE FUCK IS IN CHARGE AT CUB FOODS TO MAKE THIS A REALITY?</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I found the Hi-C section which was about the size of a skateboard and there was a hole punched in the wall. ECTO COOLER was that hole and in it remained two 10 packs of the juice boxes. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I grabbed them like a fumbled football on Thanksgiving and headed for the check outs. I had to take a victory photo and send it to my Ghostbusting counterpart, Matt. He had been searching another town for the drink and since we were doing the June 8th event, we made a pact to share the spoils. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I was so excited to have finally found these that I didn't check price. I ran to a self check out lane and as someone who works in technology, I FUBAR'd that self check out so badly that I needed a store employee to help me undo the mess just to ring out two juice boxes. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I spent $4.28 at Cub Foods and I have never been so happy in my life. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>

We plan on going on the hunt again next week prior to the movie event as we will be in full Ghostbusters jumpsuits. Matt is a film maker and we thought it might be fun to try to film the search, complete with people's reactions to two Ghostbusters asking about something as simple as sugary water. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There's just something special about Ghostbusters marketing which has made this drink the juice of the Holy Grail. It's just something cool. I mean it was meant to be "slime" and hit right when that was the cool thing for kids. After Ghostbusters came out, slime was in. Hell, Nickelodeon was LAUNCHED with large part due to their adoption of slime. Kids love the stuff. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Somewhere, somehow and my theory points at Sponge Bob, slime died off as the "it" item. I am not sure it was a kid thing that killed it rather than a corporate decision by suits. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If the new Ghostbusters movie does one thing, I hope it brings back the love for slime and ECTO COOLER might have a large part of that. The marketing for everything Ghostbusters has that classic, iconic green slime on it and I fucking love it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The contrast of the black and almost neon green just makes all right with the world. Now that I can have that electric green in a clear glass, it stirs something inside me that just makes me wanna smile.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A big thank you to Coca Cola for bringing this back and if there is ONE GOOD THING* to come out of this new movie, it's ECTO COOLER. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Rejoice. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For those that cannot find it yet, it's coming. And it's glorious. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now excuse me while I prep myself for the release of the <a href="http://www.foodbeast.com/news/keylime-slime-twinkies/" target="_blank">Key Lime Slime Twinkies.</a></div>

<br />
I am going to take a step outside of toys and nostalgia today to talk about my personal life a bit so please excuse our interruption. I was up late last night with my daughter last night so my wife could get some sleep so I passed out at 11 am CST this morning. I woke up a few hours later from what I should consider a nap but it sufficed for my nightly sleep. (Maybe Kevin Smith was right on that 3 hours of sleep a night thing that Batman taught him.)<br />
<br />
When I woke up, my wife was watching some reality Marriage Boot Camp show. Usually I am not into these shows as she watches a bunch of oddities like "My 600 lb Life" and whatever LOGO seems to be showing. The saving grace for this was Hank Baskett and Kendra Wilkinson Baskett who are two of my favorite celebs to be honest. Kendra was the coolest of the three "Girls Next Door" stars and Hank is a down to Earth former NFL player who had a cup of coffee with my Vikings.<br />
<br />
It got me to thinking about Hank and what he is up to nowadays so<a href="https://twitter.com/TheHankBaskett" target="_blank"> I looked him up</a>. I found out that he's doing some <a href="https://www.twitch.tv/hankbaskett" target="_blank">Twitch video game streaming</a> with some really cool people like <a href="https://twitter.com/AhmanGreen30" target="_blank">Football Hall of Famer Ahman Green</a>.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
I'll be the first to admit that I don't watch Kendra on Top or follow that celebrity gossip. I've always dug Hank because he's an "every man." He loves sports, he plays video games, and he's always trying to figure out his wife. I feel like he's the neighbor who moves next doors, you help him move something, and the next weekend you are at his BBQ.<br />
<br />
So I got love for him.<br />
<br />

<br />
I dabble in graphic arts and design so I figured it'd be fun to give an attempt. I do not need an Xbox One as I already own one so I have decided that if I were to be lucky enough to win this, I'd donate the Xbox One to the <a href="http://www.rmhtwincities.org/" target="_blank">Ronald McDonald House Charities Upper Midwest house</a> that gave my wife and I a place to stay while Harper was in the hospital. (<a href="http://hootinforharper.com/" target="_blank">Harper had a 64 day stay at Children's Hospitals</a> Minneapolis and RMH_UM housed us for 50 some days.)<br />
<br />
These guys saved OUR butts while we stayed by our first born's side. Harper had open heart surgery a week into her life to save her life and RMH gave us a roof, food, and a place to shower. While I snuck around the kitchen area late at night, I could hear the rustling of kids playing what sounded like a Playstation 3 in an off living room area. That thing will be outdated soon and it really hit me in the soul as that's how I made friends during tough times; sitting around a TV laughing and playing games.<br />

<h3>
<b>LOGO DESIGN</b></h3>
Hank wanted a very simple palette of items into this logo:<br />
<ul>
<li>It has to use "HB3" or the Roman Numeral III.</li>
<li>Red and Black</li>
</ul>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Easy stuff! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I started to formulate an idea of the simple twisting of the design so it could speak to the viewer on it's own terms. All good logos are a few things:</div>
<div>
<ol>
<li><b>Clean.</b> Use flat colors, flat designs so that it may be printed clearly in a large or small context. A lot of designers will flair up their images with multiple colors and use enhancements like gradients or drop shadows. These things do not transfer well when you scale for print. (Think of a embroidery shirt with a drop shadow logo....yeesssh.)</li>
<li><b>Multiple messages in a small area.</b> <a href="http://xk9.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/FedEx-logo-big.jpg" target="_blank">The world's best logo for relaying a message is FedEx</a>. It clearly states the company name so you KNOW who it is while also showing movement by a hidden arrow in the logo. The company moves things. You now know the name of the company and what it does. </li>
<li><b>Versatile.</b> I have met designers over the years who do one mock up of a logo and call it a day. This is the wrong way to do things as it gives no flexibility for the client to see it in other applications. When I do logos, I traditionally do as many takes on the logo and it's color design as I can so the client can see what perspective speaks to them.</li>
</ol>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<h3>
<b><i>Here is my take of Hank Baskett's Logo Challenge:</i></b></h3>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYB54JnstIqM-JFuc4aL82FkVgpB_eo6Dv5xrC4vIFGzULll7AOUY2yvwP5QzgruuYEEtDsNLyP6iT3tzBVer0V8mbgM1IzBE68Y7Z3sEHtBC12VuB8dE6wonXTID5rUa1TyQ-9ZiVJEPr/s1600/baskett_black_no_fb.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYB54JnstIqM-JFuc4aL82FkVgpB_eo6Dv5xrC4vIFGzULll7AOUY2yvwP5QzgruuYEEtDsNLyP6iT3tzBVer0V8mbgM1IzBE68Y7Z3sEHtBC12VuB8dE6wonXTID5rUa1TyQ-9ZiVJEPr/s400/baskett_black_no_fb.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>The Approach and Idea:</b></div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<ul>
<li>It states his initials; H.B. </li>
<li>It includes BOTH the Roman Numeral III in the H and B pillars as well as hiding a number 3. </li>
<li>It's flat, clean and can be scaled and translated to anything. (Think of taking this into a tattoo shop and telling that artist to give you HIS vision on it. Same idea can be reproduced differently.)</li>
</ul>
<div>
That's the basic logo and now we have to add the color aspect per his request. Here are the samples for the client so that they may find out what speak to him since it will be his logo:</div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtRTWFi4OlQB-xetg2IjvThiBLA1FzrY-RR51b9FDmTW9KFpA4SKcswurfNmKL-h9Fl87NPAx4JSCPZy7pWasrhvzA4qgfiK6ul_NTt6_j0SBf3OzktBRisDVjdMAsxH4emTIqwpIaGSXD/s1600/baskett_logo_no_fb_two.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtRTWFi4OlQB-xetg2IjvThiBLA1FzrY-RR51b9FDmTW9KFpA4SKcswurfNmKL-h9Fl87NPAx4JSCPZy7pWasrhvzA4qgfiK6ul_NTt6_j0SBf3OzktBRisDVjdMAsxH4emTIqwpIaGSXD/s400/baskett_logo_no_fb_two.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In this one, the 3 pops out with the red colors while also separating the logo's Roman Numerals. This is where the logo becomes a logo from an idea. It starts to speak.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
Being a football guy, I wanted to put in a part of his lifestyle into the logo as well to show how it can be used with other things. This could very well be used as a patch logo for any football jersey, hat, or apparel. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I may not have the fanciest drop shadow, gradient, glow, or effect but I am very proud of this logo. It's classic but more importantly it SPEAKS. It tells you who the person is and a bit about his life. It may not be the most famous logo in their house <a href="https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/a/a8/PlayboyLogo.svg/851px-PlayboyLogo.svg.png" target="_blank">*cough*</a> but I hope it is one that Hank enjoys. </div>

<h3>
<b>UPDATE: </b></h3>
<br />
It's 3 am here and I got David Bowie on. A few more ideas came about with some "Sound and Vision." I wanted to take the full blown polished look on this simple logo to show what type of range it can have. In my first versions, it's very simple in colors by design. It's that way so it can be performed on to look like the examples below.<br />
<br />
I also decided to try an Xbox One controller as a container since it's more about gaming than football. However, I am really happy with how this logo performs. It's symbolic. Something very iconic, classy, and literally goes with <i>everything</i>. It is almost reminiscent of the late Prince and that wasn't by design at all. It was just trying to make that logo tell a story of the person behind it.<br />
<br />
Since Hank seems to like a lot of shooters, I dirtied it up. It's grunge. It's crawled. It's ran. It has tasted victory. This logo has seen some shit. If this logo was in Rainbow Six (one of my faves), it's the first one in the door after a breach charge. It's that bad ass.<br />
<br />
I am now in the contest for the thrill of victory and helping a good cause. I've had 3 hours of sleep in the last 36 hours and I believe some of my best work came out during it.<br />
<br />
It's beautiful.<br />

<br />
<br />
I decided to update this little blog of mine in hopes that someone reads it so if this is you, thank you. Leave a comment to let me know you were here... Thanks!<br />
<br />
Throughout my life, I have been a graphic designer and the look that the blog had previously was slapped together quickly and always irritated me. I am feeling better on this look and hope that it will make for some great reading as we enter the new season of the 2016 Summer Blockbuster SMASH, "Ghostbusters."<br />
<br />
I have also toyed with the idea of doing a 1 on 1 interview type podcast show that would be myself talking to guests about "Ghostbusters." Think, Larry King talking into a microphone and interviewing the who's who of the Ghosthead community.<br />
<br />
Speaking of podcasts, I have to give credit to these guys as I have been hooked on their shows lately:<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.facebook.com/TheCrossrip/?fref=ts" target="_blank">The Ghostbusters Interdimensional Crossrip</a><br />
<br />
Chris and Troy do a wonderful job on breaking down all the news, stories, and highlights of the Ghostbusters community. They do such a wonderful job that this is why I thought the Larry King-esque interview type show would differ enough from theirs to warrant a show.<br />
<br />
and also:<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.facebook.com/yeshavesomecast/?fref=ts" target="_blank">The Yes Have Some Podcast</a><br />
<br />
I have been online friends with Craig and Abigail for sometime now. (In fact, a dancing Slimer that sits in my man cave came from Craig.) They gathered up another friend named Jake and now talk about all things neat and nostalgic. Topics range from Jurassic Park to you guessed it... Jaws.<br />
<br />
<br />
I hope that these shows help to give you some things to entertain you as I gather up some time and projects to publish on here as well as work on this new podcast idea.<br />
<br />
<b>ALSO DO NOT FORGET THAT ECTO COOLER COMES OUT ON MAY 30TH EVERYWHERE THAT HI-C IS SOLD! </b><br />

I cannot wait for that stuff... I just sit here and sniff these Ecto Cooler candles I bought with the hopes of holding out for a few more days.Adamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02637144622356938198noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8549040150718300012.post-31920646734032378472016-05-14T15:16:00.002-05:002016-06-03T01:58:15.373-05:00New Ghostbusters Toys!!It has been almost 20 years since Ghostbusters toys hit the mainstream toy aisle at local stores like Target, Walmart and even Toys R Us. The last time this happened was in the 90s with Extreme Ghostbusters which was met with a lot of criticism DESPITE having a female and a dude in a wheelchair. (Hulu has the series on it now and <i><b>it's dark</b></i>. Check it out.)<br />
<br />
These are <b><i>the </i></b>toys right now to get and are leaving a lot of toy fans struggling to find them. I have been vigilant on finding them as often as I can and so far Target is winning the battle for stocking.<br />

Walmart needs some updating.<br />
<br />
I have been able to find the Stay Puft, Rowan, a noise making Slimer plush, a light up ECTO 2016 and the ECTO 1 and ECTO 1A Hot Wheels toys. There were also a BUTT LOAD of stickers which I did pick up as well.<br />
<br />
I am a big fan of the packaging for these toys no matter what the movie will turn out to be. I really appreciate there being a 2016 line and a "classic" Ghostbusters line.<br />
<br />
Here are the highlights:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgth9QMjTWh2o4W3xdcUaevjFhVy5Pz-hk0SI_6RBOt_xWyJFg7g6Yr1xUZUfgN9sagzZYwq6tOqMs5H4u4g87yx1NQUcsqOd6wAy56RyRmk_8xF0ORUfL78vHggyiyHqjRY84HOZqKG6hy/s1600/20160514_144316.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgth9QMjTWh2o4W3xdcUaevjFhVy5Pz-hk0SI_6RBOt_xWyJFg7g6Yr1xUZUfgN9sagzZYwq6tOqMs5H4u4g87yx1NQUcsqOd6wAy56RyRmk_8xF0ORUfL78vHggyiyHqjRY84HOZqKG6hy/s640/20160514_144316.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<br />
Slimer is pretty neat as he makes two types of noises; a screaming noise and an eating noise. The plush itself is pretty nice as a microfiber plush. He looks a bit different than my childhood but then again so do I. I would highly recommend picking him up if you get a chance!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguARLN7oYwTHjgNVK_6pKnnzglRHYbAVfBXf6GMkvsapP4lDlCqHfxyl0bdE3k1rZR859EHxZtyx5er51wk7TP8Y4o19ZrDca05KQGx05GCDMfahyphenhyphen5_6wBQzugdK8DaujuRi2fiQHAWCoa/s1600/20160514_144341.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguARLN7oYwTHjgNVK_6pKnnzglRHYbAVfBXf6GMkvsapP4lDlCqHfxyl0bdE3k1rZR859EHxZtyx5er51wk7TP8Y4o19ZrDca05KQGx05GCDMfahyphenhyphen5_6wBQzugdK8DaujuRi2fiQHAWCoa/s640/20160514_144341.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<br />
Rowan is the "big bad" villain of the 2016 movie, or at least that is the pre-screening public thought on him. He deliberately looks like the franchise's logo ghost which is cool and gives him a slight hint of The Real Ghostbusters bumper host. That already gives him a pass in my book even if he does resemble comedian Louie Anderson.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxxqkBicSaiDTT_ALzQ3WMSWvlMS18W66X2t7keLw-82uhwuUayCXJpSmXwS1oHdJNiTQkydZXt6EcYYIxsxq0Ud4ZLL5hbjSoXZrtdXeoo5UNImCNhCwwa-LYDZgaH83nNKTEfL8jawUY/s1600/20160514_144359.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxxqkBicSaiDTT_ALzQ3WMSWvlMS18W66X2t7keLw-82uhwuUayCXJpSmXwS1oHdJNiTQkydZXt6EcYYIxsxq0Ud4ZLL5hbjSoXZrtdXeoo5UNImCNhCwwa-LYDZgaH83nNKTEfL8jawUY/s640/20160514_144359.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<br />
There have been a few iterations of the Hot Wheel ECTOs in the past year or so that have been SOOOOO hard to find. This find made me so happy that I had to pick up two sets of ECTOs. A great display packaging of both classic cars and the fact that this gives me another ECTO 1A is fantastic as that car has always had a soft spot in my heart.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhRpgxot1GVUqS3H8MN-kZoicMOkA0EaqX-OK7AaDSD2a81vInvhAdDQq0Ij2UMus_u9S-Y7dk5yGLUmDx1E2iO08Z37sTgUwyaIYnMNEfDioh1iigTMBrDkM9VjgXnxecAc3a6qxuEfjl/s1600/20160514_144427.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhRpgxot1GVUqS3H8MN-kZoicMOkA0EaqX-OK7AaDSD2a81vInvhAdDQq0Ij2UMus_u9S-Y7dk5yGLUmDx1E2iO08Z37sTgUwyaIYnMNEfDioh1iigTMBrDkM9VjgXnxecAc3a6qxuEfjl/s640/20160514_144427.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Stay Puft appears in the new movie it seems as a "balloon" which probably points at a parade scene at some point. The figure does a good job of saying, "This is not the Destructor but rather a Thanksgiving tradition" with the arm ripples. I really hope two things happen: 1) he gets snagged on a church and 2.) he ends up in a gravy boat. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
While I am not crazy about the new ECTO 2016, it's a cool toy as it has Slimer in the driver's seat and lights up! I am not sure how much 2016 ECTO stuff I will gather up but if this ends up being it, I am happy. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

I have not been blogging a lot in 2016 due to my daughter being born in February. She had some complications which resulted to open heart surgery which lead to a 64 day stay in an ICU at a Children's Hospital. (More on that later) I am the type of dad to want to pass the torch as best as possible and asked my friends to help me find a proton pack for her. I will be stashing this thing away until she's old enough to enjoy it as a kid, not a collector. </div>

But at two months old, the new My Little Pony has her heart thus far... Damn you, Tara Strong! (Just kidding, totally a big fan!)<br />

Willy Wonka<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I find Funko Toys' "POP"series to be pretty awesome. I enjoy finding the characters and collecting them. In my years of collecting them, I have also been able to make some extra money for other collections because some of these little buggers go for serious coin. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Willy Wonka will be sticking around in my collection as I absolutely adore Gene Wilder. His rendition of the magical man in the purple coat is borderline psychotic but still loveable. I found Depp's Wonka to be zany but with no love which is something that made the original so attractive to kids. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
He does have an Oompa Loompa friend but I am undecided if I want to seek him out. The new Alice in Wonderland Chesire Cat however....</div>
